We realize that a person's first visit to a chruch can be uncomfortable. Not knowing the people or what to expect during the worship service can make a person feel apprehensive. The following desciption provides an explanation of the typical order of our worship assembly and the meaning behind the things we do.
WELCOME
Our service typically begins with words of welcome followed by announcements. During announcements the congregation is made aware of upcoming events, opportunities, needs, and special prayer requests. We choose to do announcements first so the rest of the service can be directly focused on God.
SINGING
The first thing you will likely notice when you visit our worship assembly is the lack of instrumental music. While many church groups use instrumental music to accompany their voices, we have purposely chosen not to do so. Instead, we choose to sing a cappela. Using our voices alone we lift our hearts to God in praise. Song is a wonderful means of expressing our love, faith, and devotion to God.
PRAYER
Prayer is an important part of our worship experience. During periods of congregational prayer we join our hearts as one people to express our love, thankfulness, adoration, repentance, and needs to God. We always open and close our worship assemblies with prayer. Prayer also plays a prominent role when we share the Lord's Supper.
COMMUNION
Communion, or the Lord's Supper, is the focal point of our worship. Jesus called us to observe this meal in remembrance of him. The unleavened bread represents his body which was nailed to the cross. The fruit of the vine represents his blood which was shed for our sins. During this time of communion we quietly contemplate our relationship with God. It is a time of remembrance, confession, thankfulness and renewal.
OFFERING
The offering, or collection, is our opportunity to give to God as an expression of our thankfulness for all he has given us. The money collected during the offering is used to finance the ministries of the church. As our guest, we do not expect you to participate in the offering. The responsibility for supporting the ministries of this church belongs to its members. All we ask is that you place a completed visitors card in the offering plate.
