Remembering Jesus
This is the time of the year when many focus back some two thousand years to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus has without question transformed the lives of a multitude of people over the centuries. Today He is still the driving force of the good that is in the world. When we stop and think about Jesus there are some things we certainly want to remember about Him.
1. Our Lord who came. John tells us, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” John 1:14. Jesus humbled Himself and left all the heavenly glory behind to become one of us and walk in flesh as we walk. Jesus left it all behind because He knew our great need for salvation.
2. Our Lord who conquered. Most view a man on a cross as ultimate defeat. When we look at Christ on the cross we see ultimate victory. Through His death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus has conquered both sin and death for mankind. Because of the blood that He shed, we can be reconciled unto God the Father. There is simply no present one will find under the tree that compares to the ultimate gift Christ gave us on the tree.
3. Our Lord who comes. Jesus as assured us that He will come again (John 14:1-4). He states that He has gone to prepare a place for us and for this reason He will return again and receive us unto Himself. Peter puts this in perspective when he asks, “Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness…” (2 Peter 3:11).
When we think of Jesus, we remember the love He had in coming to earth, the power He displayed in conquering sin and death, and we remember to live our lives faithful to Him so that when He returns we will be found ready. What a true joy that will be for those who are prepared to see Him.
